They are to be named BAPU as father of the nation always stressed on rural sanitation

In order to give boost sanitation in rural area in 12th plan provision of Rs 36,000 crore has been made as compared to Rs 7800 crore has been made bt WHO
  • Rapidly modernizing India is drowning in its own excreta
  • 60% of world’s open defecation is India
  • This includes people from urban slum and rural areas
Relation in hygiene and malnutrition
Leaked sewage leads to deadly and costly spiral
  • Nitrate levels in ground water exceeds 45 milligrams per litre a sure sign of sewage contamination
  • The cost of pumping water rises
  • The cost of building and maintaining water pipeline increases
  • As the water system degrades, the rich move towards bottle system and poor get sick
  • Leaking of sewage contaminates river water and ground water
Waste water treatment facility is awefully bad; country has only 30% capacity to treat its waste water but effective is only 20%
